Car Slams Into Phenix City Barber Shop Saturday

PHENIX CITY, AL:Scary moments unfolded for nearly two dozen patrons at a Phenix City barber shop on Saturday afternoon. After a motorist lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a packed barber shop missing patrons and employees by only inches, while heavily damaging the popular business.

Phenix City emergency officials responded to The Perfect Cut barber shop located at 2305 Crawford Road Suite A at around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday Afternoon. Emergency officials responded in response to a crash at the popular Phenix City business where a motorist drove their vehicle through a front window of the business.

According to witness accounts there were a little under two dozen customers inside of the Perfect Cut barber shop when the accident occurred. The patrons ranged from toddler ages to senior citizens. The Perfect Cut barber shop is known throughout the Phenix City area for its symbolic haircuts and discounted cuts for children in the Chattahoochee Valley. Many of those in the barber shop at the time of the crash were children receiving back to school haircuts.

As patrons sat in barber chairs and nearby waiting area an elderly motorist lost control of his vehicle and rather than backing his vehicle in reverse accidently accelerated jumping a 6 inch curb in front of the building and crashing into a front window of the business. Several chairs were situated along that window where the vehicle crashed. The impact sent chairs sliding through the barber shop and glass and bricks flying into the business.

Patrons of the barber shop looked on in fear and raced for safety as the debris from the impact hit the business. Once realizing what had occurred employees of the barber shop raced towards the debris pile to check for injuries in an area where several children had just sat. Two individuals were hit from the impact of the crash, but did not receive major injuries.

Phenix City emergency crews arrived on the scene just minutes after the crash. CARE ambulance officials treated the two individuals that were near the crash site on the scene. Shortly afterwards the barber shop resumed normal operations.

Repairs will be made to the building in the coming days. The buidling susatined heavy damge to include the complete destruction of a window and brick work of the business. Employees of the business were mostly pleased that no one was injured in the crash. The driver of the vehicle which was a small Pontiac sedan did not recieve any major injury as a result of the crash. He was fully alert and did cooperate with Phenix City Police.
