Columbus Sears Store Set to Close

The Sears Store at Columbus Park Crossing will close this Spring according to a release from Sears Holdings.
COLUMBUS, GA: A landmark at the massive Columbus Park Crossing shopping center will be no more come this spring. On Wednesday Illinois based Sears Holdings announced it will be closing its retail location at the Columbus Park Crossing Shopping Center in north Columbus.

The massive two story Sears store has been in its location in Columbus Park Crossing since the early 2000's when the nearly million square foot shopping center was constructed.

On Wednesday Sears Holdings announced that it will close 108 K-Mart Stores and 42 Sears Stores by the start of April this year. On that list were two Columbus location including the Sears store and the K-Mart Store on Macon Road.

Sears has been in the Columbus area for decades with its prior location at the now defunct Columbus Square Mall on Macon Road. The store left the Mall which has now been torn down and moved to the massive lifestyle center shopping complex on the Northside of Columbus.

Of the Sears locations set to close only two Georgia locations were listed those include stores in Columbus and one in the Albany Mall in Albany, Ga. In neighboring Alabama the store at the Florence Mall in Florence, AL is set to close as well.

No word yet on if any retailers are interested in filling the space that Sears occupied in the massive the shopping complex. The store should close in late March to early April according to Sears.
