CPD/MCSDPD Investigate Incident At Heritage Bowl
According to the Columbus Police Department officers from their agency along with officers from the Muscogee County School District Police Department are investigating a incident of fights that erupted during the classic football game between Carver High School and Spencer High school on Friday, August 25, 2023.
According to CPD the football game was ended early due to fights that erupted during the game. The altercations spilled over into the parking lots at South Commons. As the violence escalated police are investigating unsubstantiated reports of shots being fired in an area that was away from the stadium.
Police have released no details at this time of injuries related to the incident. Social media showed several videos of players diving for cover on the grounds of the stadium. Several videos have also surfaced of people in the stands running for cover.
The Heritage Bowl has become an annual tradition in Metro Columbus as the Carver Tigers face their nearby rival the Spencer Greenwaves in one of the most deep rooted rivalry’s in Columbus. In past years the gane has seen a friendly rivalry between the two schools. Many spectators at the game say they have never seen anything in relation to the level of violence seen on Friday night
The Game was called in the third quarter as Carver led Spencer with a score is 21-0.
