Interstate 185 closed after deadly crash

Police are working an investigation into a deadly overnight crash in Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA: Emergency crews from various departments throughout Columbus responded to a motor vehicle crash after 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
Crews arrived to a multi-vehicle accident located along Interstate 185 in Columbus north of Airport Thruway. That accident has resulted in at least four people being transported to Midtown Medical Center. One person was also killed in that accident. The severity of the other injuries are unknown at this time.
Police are working an active accident investigation on the scene of the accident Sunday Morning and that has resulted in a large portion of Interstate 185 being close in Columbus.
Police have all southbound sides of the Interstate from U.S. Highway 80 (Jr Allen Parkwa)y closed to traffic. Southbound traffic was being rerouted to the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 80. Northbound lanes are also closed as well north of Airport Thruway.
No timeline has been released as to when the busy highway should reopen. Motorist should find different routes between Airport Thurway and U.S. Highway 80 in Columbus. Those are exits 8 through 10. No details has yet been released on the identities of crash victims or the circumstances that caused the accident.
