Monday shooting victim succumbs to injuries Wednesday evening

COLUMBUS, GA- A man who was wounded in a shooting on Walker Street in Columbus on Monday evening, passed from his injuries at a local hospital on Wednesday evening.

Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley confirmed Wednesday night that Billy Joe Crocker, passed on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center.

Crocker was wounded in a shooting shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, July 5, 2021 in the 2500 block of Walker Street in Columbus/U> Crocker was transported to Piedmont Midtown where he was listed in critical condition following the shooting.

The shooting of Crocker marks the second fatal shooting in Columbus this week. 31-year-old Davetta Mims of Columbus was fatally shot in the parking lot of Mercy's Jamaican Kitchen on Milgen Road.

There has been no information released about a suspect or possible motive in the fatal shooting of Crocker. Columbus stands at 39 homicides for the year following.
