One Dead Following Morning Shooting On Milgen Road

COLUMBUS, GA- An early morning shooting near a small shopping center in Columbus has claimed the life of a 43-year-old man as police investigate the latest fatal shooting in Columbus this year.

Police responded to a small shopping center in the 5700 block of Milgen Road early Wednesday morning at 2:34 a.m. in reference to a shooting. When police arrived they discovered 43-year-old Rickett Carter suffering from gunshot wounds.

Carter was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he later succumb to his injuries. Carter was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Elizabeth Allison at 3:24 a.m. His body will be sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
