An overnight high speed chase from Harris County in Columbus reached speeds of near 130 mph as officers chase a fleeing Audi.
COLUMBUS, GA: Residents in areas of north and central Columbus were awaken by the blare of police sirens shortly after 10:00 p.m. Monday night. The result was officers from two different West Georgia Counties attempting to stop a fleeing motorist as he reached speeds in excess of 100 mph while fleeing officers.

The chase began in Harris County to the north of Columbus when officers in that jurisdiction attempted to stop a speeding black Audi GT automobile. Rather than yield to the officers requests to stop for a citation the driver floored the gas and fled from pursing officers. Thus the chase began.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. law enforcement in Harris County notified Columbus law enforcement there was a chase of the vehicle making its way down Georgia Highway 85 known as Manchester Expressway in Columbus. The chase crossed into Muscogee County near County Line Road in the Midland area. Pursing officers from Harris County did not break off their pursuit of the vehicle and continued to pursing the vehicle into Columbus.

Officers report the fleeing driver reached speeds of near 130 mph while fleeing officers. As the driver made their way into Columbus on Manchester Expressway the driver exited near Milgen Road and continued the chase down that roadway before turning into a residential area near Reese Road. The chase still ongoing turned into several residential areas including the Castlewood subdivision off of Reese Road before spilling onto Primrose near Gentian Elementary School.

Police began to worry for public safety and used their vehicles to make temporary roadblocks to keep motorist out of harms way. The chase eventually made its way onto Macon Road in Columbus while officers still pursued the suspect. The chase would eventually find its way on Woodland Road and Alta Vista. Along Alta Vista near Morris Road the driver became even more reckless by turning off their lights. At this point Harris County law enforcement called off the pursuit.

As of now we have not been able to confirm if the driver was later apprehended. We can confirm that there were no injuries in Columbus from this pursuit and all officers were also in good health following the dangerous chase. Several agencies were pursuing the fleeing motorist to include Harris County Sheriff's Deputies, Columbus Police, and Waverly Hall Police.

We will continue to follow this story as it develops.
