Kadie the Cow has sat atop the hill at 2925 Manchester Expressway in Columbus since 1967. The location is presently the home to a Best Buy store. Last week officials with Best Buy announced that the store would be locating to a vacant building on Whittlesey Boulevard near Columbus Park Crossing that was once home to HHgregg. The closure of the Best Buy on Manchester Expressway has now put into question will the next owners of the property preserve the large Kadie the Cow fiberglass statue in front of the building.

A petition to the city of Columbus on the website Change.org is asking city officials to declare Kadie the Cow as a historic landmark to keep the statue from being moved when a new property owner takes over the soon to be vacated property. There has been no word as of yet for any retailers that may be interested in purchasing the Best Buy property.

Kadie the Cow dates back to 1967 when the statue was placed on top of the hill at what was then the location of Kinnett Dairies. The Kinnett Daries on Manchester Expressway ceased operations in 1998 and Best Buy built the store on the property that opened in 2003 located between Interstate 185 and Peachtree Mall.

The petition on Change.org has received more than 4,700 signatures as of Monday morning. The petition began on Friday January 18, 2019 and received more than 1,500 signatures in its first 24 hours. Many citing the cow statue as a landmark and part of Columbus history. For those interested in viewing or signing the petition we have provided a link below.
