Phenix City Mother Charged With Capital Murder After 4-Month-Old Dies In Wednesday Fire

Ashley Nicole King, 31, of Phenix City has been arrested and charged with capital murder after her 4-month-old baby died in a Wednesday apartment fire in Phenix City.

Phenix City police have announced that officers arrested 31-year-old Ashley Nicole King,of Phenix City in connection to a fatal fire that broke out at an apartment in the Cloverleaf Apartments located at 2813 Stadium Drive at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
When fire officials arrived to the fire they learned a baby was inside of the burning apartment. The 4-month-old infant was located alone and non-responsive by rescue personnel on Wednesday morning. The infant was transported to Columbus Piedmont Midtown Medical Center where the infant was pronounced dead.
Investigators began looking into the fire and discovered the fire was set deliberately. Evidence led Phenix City police to name the infants mother, Ashley N. King as a suspect in the fire. She was arrested and charged with capital murder. The charge is a capital case because the infant was under the age of 14.
King had her first court appearance on Thursday morning. She is being held without bond on the charges related to the deadly incident. The case remains under investigation.
