Phenix City Police Investigate Two Weekend Homicides

PHENIX CITY, AL- The Phenix City Police Department is investigating a violent weekend in the east Alabama city. Over the first weekend of 2021, police are investigating two fatal shootings and one of the incidents left two other people injured.

The first shooting took place on Epworth Street, in Phenix City's Asbury Park neighborhood. Police responded to reports of a shooting in the area at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Police arrived and discovered and discovered three people had been shot. One of the victims was deceased. Officials have not released the identity of the deceased individual at this time, but have announced the victim is a teenager.

Hours later at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2021, police responded to the 2000 block of 45th Street in reference to a shooting. Police arrived and found 34-year-old Johnathon Larson deceased. Larson was pronounced dead on the scene by representatives of the Russell County Coroner's Office. His body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
