4/26/20 7 p.m. Alabama Daily COVID-19 Update; Alabama Tops 6,400 Cases 200 + Dead

The Alabama Department of Public Health reports that there are more than 6,400 cases of COVID-19 cases in Alabama and 219 dead as of Sunday night.

The latest data from the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) shows Alabama has 6,421 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Statewide 219 people have lost their lives as a result of the virus.
Numbers in East Alabama remain high in places like Chambers County which reports 285 cases and 18 deaths. Neighboring Lee County remains hard hit by the virus as well. Lee County reports 365 cases with 24 deaths reported due to COVID-19.
Russell County has seen its number of cases rise to 53. The county continues to report no deaths as 398 people have been tested in the county. Barbour County to the south of Russell County continues to show no deaths as well, but the county is reporting 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Mobile County in South Alabama has the largest number of cases across the state with 917 and 41 deaths. Mobile County leads the state in deaths as well. Jefferson County which includes the city of Birmingham has the second-highest number of cases at 839 with 33 deaths.
Alabama remains closed for most types of non-essential businesses such as hair salons and massage parlors. Georgia eased restrictions on these types of businesses on Friday and will ease restrictions on restaurants and movie theaters on Monday. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey is expected to make a decision later this week if Alabama will begin to reopen or extend its stay at home order.
