River Dragons Extend Win Streak To 13 Games After Weekend Victories

COLUMBUS, GA- The Columbus River Dragons continue to show teams in the FPHL they are a true contender and a force to be dealt with as the River Dragons improved their ongoing win streak to 13 games after victories over the weekend against Baton Rouge and Mississippi.



The River Dragons hosted the Baton Rouge Zydeco on Friday night at the Columbus Civic Center. Columbus players came out strong in the game to beat Baton Rouge with a final score of 8-5.

The game started in a true cat and mouse fashion between the Dragons and the Zydeco as each time would score in the opening minutes of the game with a response from the opponent. Baton Rouge would pull ahead to close out the first period with a score of 2-1.

The Zydeco's lead was short lived as Columbus came out dominate in the second period. In the second period Dragon's players including, Austin Daae, Justin MacDonald, Ryan Hunter and Carter Shinkaruk would all score to push Columbus to a 5-2 lead over the Zydeco.

The Zydeco kept Columbus fans entertained and on the edge of their seats as they entered the third period with racking up three more points on the board, before Columbus would answer those points and push the game to an 8-5 victory in favor of the Dragons.

The Dragons would not have long to rest as they were back in action on Saturday night and hosted the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The momentum that the Dragon's had on Friday night against Baton Rouge rolled over to Saturday night as the River Dragons came out swinging and powering their offensive weapons against Mississippi.

The River Dragons would score five goals in the first two periods of the game on Saturday against the Sea Wolves. Mississippi would answer the offensive weaponry provided by Columbus in the third period as they scored their first and only goal of the night. Columbus would continue to rack up points in the third period to close the game out with a final score of 7-1 against the visiting Sea Wolves.

The River Dragons improve their season record and will host Baton Rouge again next weekend in games on Friday and Saturday night at the Columbus Civic Center. The River Dragons are the #1 team in the FPHL Continental division. For information on tickets please visit RDragons.com.
