Sunday Crash In Phenix City Sends One To The Hospital

A two-vehicle accident slowed the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 431 South in Phenix City on Sunday afternoon.
PHENIX CITY- Police in Phenix City are investigating an accident that occurred on U.S. Highway 431 South on Sunday afternoon. The accident sent at least one person to the hospital and left the southbound lanes of travel open to only one lane of traffic for slightly more than an hour.

Phenix City Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 400 block of US Highway 431 South shortly before 1 p.m. EST on Sunday, August 22, 2021. When police arrived they discovered two vehicles had collided near the entrance to the Rainbow Foods store.

The accident involved a small bus and a compact vehicle. The compact vehicle sustained heavy damage and one person was seen being loaded into an ambulance. The bus also sustained damage to its front area. The occupants of the bus were seen being loaded into a transport van that arrived on the scene. The ambulance transported the injured person to a nearby hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Phenix City Police closed one lane of travel as traffic investigators arrived and conducted an investigation. The lanes were reopened to travel around 2:30 p.m. EST on Sunday afternoon.

The accident remains under investigation at this time by police.
