Suspect Arrested In Deadly Overnight Motel Shooting

James Boone-Scott has been arrested in connection to deadly Thursday night shooting of 47-year-old James N. Mitchell.
COLUMBUS, GA- The Columbus Police Department has announced the arrest of a 19-year-old man in connection to a deadly shooting at a Victory Drive Motel on Thursday night. The shooting claimed the life of a 47-year-old man.



According to Columbus Police at 8:58 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, members of the Columbus Police Department's Patrol Unit were dispatched to the 3000 block of Victory Drive in the area of the Motel 6 in reference to a shooting.

When officers arrived on scene they discovered a black male, laying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, The victim was identified as 47-year-old James N. Mitchell. Mitchell was transported to Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus for treatment, but succumb to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospitals Emergency Room at 9:33 p.m.

Investigators with CPD's Violent Crimes Unit took lead on the investigation into the fatal shooting. Information gathered within their investigation led detectives to a suspect. Police were able to take 19-year-old Jaboree Boone-Scott into custody in connection to Mitchell's death.

He has been charged with murder and possession a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is scheduled to make an appearance in Columbus Recorders Court on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 9 a.m.
