Woman dead following Tuesday shooting on Milgen Road

Columbus police investigate the scene of a shooting on Milgen Road Tuesday afternoon, where a 31-year-old Columbus woman was killed.

The Muscogee County Coroner's Office has announced 31-year-old Davetta Mims, was shot in the parking lot of Mercy's Jamaican Kitchen, located at 5753 Milgen Road in Columbus, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. The shooting took place shortly before 5 p.m. The victim was transported to a Columbus area hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police have released no details about a possible suspect or arrests in the case at this time. In a Facebook posting on Wednesday morning, the staff at Mercy's Jamaican Kitchen extended their condolences to the family of the victim and thanked their customers for reaching out to the staff at the restaurant.
Additional details are expected to be released at a later time about the case.
