Victim Identified In Deadly Motel 6 Shooting

Columbus Police are investigating a fatal shooting at a Victory Drive Motel.
COLUMBUS, GA- Columbus homicide investigators are working a deadly shooting at a Victory Drive motel. The Muscogee Coroner's Office has identified the victim in the shooting as a 46-year-old male.



The Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit responded to the Motel 6 located at 3050 Victory Drive in Columbus on the evening of Thursday, July 6, 2023.

When police arrived they discovered a 46-year-old male suffering from gunshot injuries. According to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan the victim has been identified as James N. Mitchell.

Mitchell was transported to Piedmont Midtown ER in Columbus where he was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m. The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds according to Bryan.

Police have released no details about a possible suspect or motive at this time. The case is under investigation by CPD's Violent Crimes Unit.

The fatal shooting comes just one day after the Fountain City saw its most recent homicide. On Wednesday afternoon a 33-year-old male was found shot in a overturned vehicle on Hood Street. That case also remains under investigation by Columbus Police.
